How-To: Stretchy Bind Off

As always, the reference explains this better than I ever will (and has pictures!).

It's like the usual bind off (knit one stitch, knit another stitch, then pass the first stitch over the second), but with reverse yarn overs.

You first need to process the stitch.

Knit Stitches: Do a reverse yarn over (wrap the yarn the opposite way you would usually would around the needle), knit one stitch, then pass the YO over the knitted stitch.

Purl Stitches: Do a yarn over (in the usual direction), purl one stitch, then pass the YO over the purled stitch.

The bind-off process:

Process each of the first 2 stitches, then pass the first over the second. (After you process the first stitch, with each remaining stitch, you can pass the YO and the processed stitch at the same time.) Repeat this until the knitting is completely off your needles.

I used this for Seas Shawl, and it is indeed very stretchy!
